The extractor hood is essential for keeping the air clean. But even a powerful hood can lose much of its performance if the installation isn\u2019t done correctly. In fact, not even the best model on the market works well if the extraction system is poorly executed.<\/h2>\n

Let\u2019s begin:<\/p>\n

1. Using a non-approved flexible duct<\/h3>\n

That flimsy aluminium \u201cdryer-like\u201d duct so common in quick installations\u2026 doesn\u2019t work. It\u2019s cheap, yes, but also weak, noisy and restricts airflow. Its corrugated interior creates turbulence, deforms over time and accumulates grease.
In short: it turns a good hood into a mediocre one.<\/p>\n

Avoid it like this:<\/strong>
\u2022 Prioritise rigid, smooth, certified extraction ducts.
\u2022 If you need a flexible section, make sure it\u2019s certified and stretched to the maximum.
\u2022 Always follow the manufacturer\u2019s recommendations.<\/p>\n

2. Reducing the duct diameter<\/h3>\n

If your hood is designed for 150 mm and you install a 120 mm duct, you\u2019re choking it: noise increases, performance drops and the motor works harder.<\/p>\n

Avoid it like this:<\/strong>
\u2022 Respect the specified diameter \u2014 it\u2019s part of the product\u2019s performance.
\u2022 Maintain the same diameter throughout the entire run.
\u2022 If structural limitations force a reduction, expect extraction losses and more noise. These are not product faults, but a direct consequence of reducing the duct size.<\/p>\n

3. Duct runs that are too long<\/h3>\n

The longer the air has to travel, the worse the hood works: performance drops, noise increases and condensation may appear.<\/p>\n

Avoid it like this:<\/strong>
\u2022 Install the hood as close as possible to the outlet.
\u2022 As a rule of thumb: 3 metres total duct length is ideal.
\u2022 If you must exceed it, compensate with a more powerful hood or an in-line extractor.
\u2022 Slightly tilt the horizontal duct section towards the exterior so condensation doesn\u2019t return to the hood.<\/p>\n

4. Too many bends<\/h3>\n

Each bend reduces airflow. Three 90\u00b0 elbows can cut performance by almost half.<\/p>\n

Avoid it like this:<\/strong>
\u2022 The fewer bends, the better.
\u2022 Two 45\u00b0 bends are better than one 90\u00b0.
\u2022 Consider diagonal routes if they help smooth the airflow.<\/p>\n

5. Not planning the outlet (and choosing the wrong alternative)<\/h3>\n

When the extraction route isn\u2019t planned from the start, inconsistent solutions appear \u2014 and they compromise performance.<\/p>\n

If there\u2019s no possibility of exterior extraction, recirculation is a valid option as long as<\/em> a quality system is used and properly maintained. The problem is not recirculation itself \u2014 it\u2019s poor filters, misuse or lack of maintenance.<\/p>\n

Avoid it like this:<\/strong>
\u2022 Prioritise exterior extraction whenever possible: it removes humidity, heat and odours.
\u2022 If there\u2019s no outlet, choose high-quality recirculation: good activated carbon or plasma.
\u2022 Maintain filters according to the manufacturer\u2019s instructions. Recirculation can perform at its best, but only with proper care and correct use.<\/p>\n

In summary<\/h3>\n

A good installation makes all the difference. For your hood to work properly:
\u2022 Rigid ducts of the correct diameter.
\u2022 Short, straight runs.
\u2022 Minimal bends.
\u2022 And proper planning from the very beginning.<\/p>\n
